The practice of storage through the closet/wardrobe (doulapa in greek).
A closet is a case, a container, a box in which subjects or objects, materials or intangibles, similar or not, are placed. The closet is a mechanism. Mechanism for ordering, hiding and weaving findings. A potential toolbox, the contents of which one can refer to in order to be armed with new stimuli, information, relations, connections. The stored elements can be included in a synthetic pro- cess aiming to design space, forms, objects and so on. The one who is asked to answer a design question can be either a creator or an observer of a closet . Depending on the question, the objects / subjects of each closet can be observed and approached in a different direction and therefore produce different results.
“... the incipient modern life sciences also fall back on the old cosmogonic motif of the genesis of all life, indeed the world as a whole, from an original egg.” *
Is this “egg” a miniature of the closet?
What is a closet? It is a method of studying and redefining storage as a basic structure and a prerequisite in the design process.
Axes of study:
- Placing things, materials in storage for safekeeping and preservation for potential use
- Hiding things from prying eyes
- Psychopathology of storage etc.
